Emergency Planning

Historic venues make great film and TV locations, and filming can provide venues with valuable income and publicity.

Spencer & Fry understands the restrictions of the historic properties, as well as the needs of a production crew. Working in partnership with venue staff and location managers, we negotiate ways of making sure the shoot is a rewarding experience for all and doesn’t damage historically important interiors and objects.

Film productions include: Transformers: The Last KnightVictoria and AbdulCrooked House Wonder Womanand Phantom Thread.

TV productions include: The Crown(Netflix), Royal Recipes (BBC), Taboo(BBC), Action Team(ITV), and Trust(FX).

A robust emergency plan helps historic venues respond quickly and effectively to potentially devastating incidents, such as fire or flood, to save important historic objects and limit the long-term damage. Our work includes working with partners, such as the fire service, to provide robust planning advice.

 This service includes:

• Advice on writing emergency and salvage plans

• Specifying appropriate salvage equipment

• First-aid treatment of damaged objects

• Staff training exercises, seminars, and courses

Clients who have used this service include: British Museum, Wallington Hall (National Trust), South East Museum Development Programme, Historic England, Fulham Palace, and the Scout Association.

We commissioned Claire to review our newly drafted emergency plan to ensure it was clear, workable, and would meet accreditation standards. Claire provided constructive feedback on the content and structure of the plan and provided recommendations for salvage, treatments, and equipment. We toured our site to assess the proposed salvage areas, and Claire provided recommendations on access routes, security, and salvage equipment.

Claire is very knowledgeable, having worked in this field for many years with both small and large scale organisations. She is very approachable, and no question is considered too small. I would highly recommend Claire for all aspects of emergency planning.
